avalakki palav | poha pulao recipe

Avalakki Palav, also known as Poha Pulav, is a delightful and comforting dish. This dish features flattened rice flakes (avalakki or poha) cooked with aromatic spices, colorful vegetables. This is a Vegan & gluten free breakfast . Coming to avalakki We have three varieties of avalakki/poha, Gatti avalakki(thick), medium avalakki and thin also known as paper(telu) avalakki. For some recipes we use gatti avalakki/thick and for chivda/chooda we use thin poha. Here in this recipe we have used medium avalakki.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup medium avalakki (you can use gatti avalakki)
  • 2.5 tbsp cooking oil
  • finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp salt or salt to taste

vegetables of your choice:

  • carrots
  • beans
  • bell pepper
  • tomato
  • onion

Masala ingredients:

  • 4 green chilies
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 cloves/lavanga
  • 1 cardamom
  • small piece of cinnamon
  • little ginger
  • 1/2 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp coriander seeds/dania
  • 3/4 tsp somp/fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp coriander seeds/dania
  • 1/4 cup grated fresh coconut

Method:

  1. Grind all the masale ingredients without adding water
  2. Add little water and grind the masale
  3. Wash and cut the vegetables as shown in the video
  4. Wash the avalakki/poha, squeeze water and keep it. (soak it for 5 to 10 minutes if itis thick poha/gatti avalakki)
  5. Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat. add the masale, fry it until the raw smell disappears.
  6. Now add onions, saute it for a few minutes
  7. add other vegetables, saute it.(if you want cook it or half cooked vegetables taste good)
  8. Finally, add tomatoes, fry them.
  9. After 3 to 4 minutes, add washed avalakki, salt, and mix it well. Let it be on low heat for 2 to 4 minutes. Finally add chopped coriander leaves, turn off the heat .
  10. Now avalakki palav is ready to serve.
