Kuttavalakki recipe | Poha recipe | Avalakki recipes
Kuttavalakki is a traditional kannada breakfast or snack dish made with medium avalakki / medium poha / flattened rice and spices. This kuttavalakki is easy to make and super delicious. This is vegan, gluten free , no onion, no garlic breakfast or evening snack. Best for travel as well

Millet recipes

Ingredients for kuttavalakki recipe:

  • 2 cup medium avalakki
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • key lime size tamarind(remove the seeds )
  • 1 tsp jeerige / jira / cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp powdered jaggery
  • 5 guntur red chilies
  • 5 byadagi red chillies
  • For seasoning
  • 1.5 tbsp cooking oil\1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal/uddina bele
  • 2 tbsp peanuts / groundnuts
  • thinly sliced dried coconut 2 tbsp
  • 20 to 25 curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp hurigadale/roasted chana
  • 1 tsp salt or salt to taste
  • pinch of hing

Method:

  1. Grind/powder red chilies, jira and coriander seeds
  2. Add tamarind and powder it then add avalakki
  3. Coarse grind the mix and then add jaggery, pulse it and keep it ready

To make kuttavalakki:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan. Once hot add mustard seeds, after it pops add dal
  2. As the dals turn golden brown add peanuts, and dry coconut slices
  3. Add curry leaves, fry it until the they are done
  4. Add turmeric powder, hing, roasted chana, salt and avalakki mix. Mix it well.
  5. Turn off the heat and mix it well. Leave it for 5 to 10 minutes and then you eat. Best for travel as well
