Vaddaragi Hittu | Super Baby Food | Ragi Sari

SwayamPaaka, August 5, 2016September 14, 2017

Vaddaraagi Hittu/raagi sari/ manni is the best and oldest way of making the baby food. Raagi as we all know has calcium, iron and many more important nutrients which are needed for the growing baby. Start with making the powder using the Raagi/finger millet. Then add one ingredient at a time. This raagi hittu/powder is very healthy and contains all the essential ingredients for the growing baby/Kid.

MAKE SURE THE BABY IS NOT ALLERGIC TO ANY OF THE INGREDIENTS IN THIS SUPER FOOD. YOU CAN START WITH ONLY RAJI(FINGER MILLET) AND THEN INTRODUCE ONE BY ONE

Ingredients for making Vaddaragi hittu:

  • ¼ cup wheat berries/godhi
  • ¼ cup whole chana
  • ¼ cup Moong beans
  • 1 cup raagi/Finger millet

For 4 month old baby:

  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 to 2 TBSP water
  • ½ tsp vaddaragi hittu

Method:

  1. Wash and soak above ingredients separately with sufficient water overnight.
  2. Next morning drain the water and tie it in a clean cloth to sprout. (each one separately)
  3. After 24 hours, spread these dry sprouted ingredients on the towel and dry this thoroughly under the sun for a day. (this is very important)
  4. Grind this dried ingredients in a mixer to a fine powder.
  5. If you are feeding 3 to 1 year baby,
  6. Take a saucepan and cover the mouth with clean cloth.
  7. Put a TBSP or 2 of the prepared powder on the cloth and using a spoon just keep mixing it so that we will get the very fine powder.
  8. Use this powder for the Babys.

How to Make the baby food using this Powder:

  1. Mix water, milk and the powder in a pan without any lumps.
  2. Cook this on medium low heat for 2 to 3 minutes stirring continuously.
  3. Once it becomes warm enough feed this to the baby.
  4. You can add honey or little salt with ghee in later months.
