Avalakki Bisibele bath | Poha bisi bele bath

Avalakki bisibele bath is easy and delicious breakfast dish. This is best filling dish on ekaadashi or upvas days. Here is the recipe to our favorite wholesome food avalakki bisibele bath.

  • 1 cup gatti avalakki / thick poha
  • ½ cup split green gram / Moong dal / Hesaru bele


  • little more than ¼ cup cut carrots
  • Little more than ¼ cup cut beans
  • ¼ cup fresh peas

Other ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp peanuts/groundnuts
  • around ½ cup grated coconut
  • 3 tbsp bisibele bath powder (How to make the bisibele bath powder)
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • around 3/4 tbsp salt or salt to taste
  • around 5 cups water
  • small key lime size tamarind (wash and soak in water)
  • finely chopped coriander leaves
  • few curry leaves
  • little jaggery
  • 1 tbsp ghee

For seasoning:

  • 1.5 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 byadagi red chilli
  • 1/2 tsp kadle bele/chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp uddina bele / urad dal/split black gram


  1. wash the moong dal and pressure cook this along with 1.5 cup water, little oil, and turmeric powder in one pan, and
  2. In another pan take peanuts, beans, carrots, peas,. with 1/4 to 1/2 cup water, pressure cook this on medium heat. Turn off the heat after 1 whistle
  3. Wash avalakki and add 1.5 cups of water and keep it aside for 10 minutes
  4. Grind bisibele bath along with coconut and water to a fine paste and keep it ready
  5. heat the oil in a thick bottom pan on medium heat
  6. once hot add mustard seeds, after it sputters add dals, once the dals turn golden brown add chillies
  7. add cooked moong dal, once it starts to boil add coconut- bisibele bath paste, add tamarind extract, jaggery, salt, mix it and let it boil
  8. once it starts to boil add curry leaves, cooked vegetable, mix it and allow it to boil for 2 to 3 minutes
  9. After 2 minutes add soaked avalakki along with water, mix it and cook it for another 5 minutes on medium low heat
  10. after 5 minutes, add chopped coriander leaves, turn off the heat . Add ghee, mix it well. Now avalakki Bisibele bath is ready to serve.
