Togari Bele Chutney | Toor Dal Chutney

Toor dal Chutney is very nice combination Dosa, idli , Adai or lentil dosa. Chutney – there are so many varieties, each one has its own flavor, and taste. Each breakfast dish like Dosa, Idli has its own companion, these goes well with a particular type of chutney. This red chutney or Bele/dal coconut chutney is very tasty, healthy and delicious side dish, goes well with almost every breakfast menu like chapathi, rava idli and dosa. Very easy to make super delicious chutney.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp toor dal
  • ½ cup coconut
  • 3 to 6 guntur chillies
  • 3 to 6 byadagi or kashmiri chillies
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tbsp coriander seeds
  • Pinch of hing
  • Few curry leavesz
  • Marble size tamarind
  • 1 to 2 tsp jaggery(optional)
  • ½ cup water

For seasoning:

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
  • Pinch of hing
  • 1 red chilli
  • Few curry leaves

Method:

  1. Dry roast chana dal, chillies and curry leaves until the dals turn golden brown on medium low heat.
  2. Add coriander seeds and hing and fry it.
  3. Turn off the heat and allow it to cool.
  4. Grind the above ingredients, then add coconut, salt, and jaggery to a coarse paste. Add enough water to get the chutney consistency.

To prepare the seasoning:

  1. Heat oil in a ladle. Once it is hot enough add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds pops, add broken chilli and turn off the heat
  2. Pour this seasoning on the chutney. Mix it. Now serve this delicious, healthy lentil chutney with Rava Idli, dosa or you can eat this with hot rice
