Fried Khara Avalakki | Fried poha chivda

Fried khara  avalakki | Deep fried spicy poha chivda recipe
Easy to make , a quick snack recipe is this fried khara avalakki popularly called Chivda.
Poha or avalakki chivda is one of the easy and popular evening snacks. Can be stored for 2 weeks. This is Vegan, gluten free snack recipe

Ingredients for making fried khara avalakki:

  • 1 cup gatti avalakki / thick poha
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1 tbsp cashews
  • 1tbsp groundnuts / peanuts
  • 1 tbsp hurigadale / roasted chana /fried gram dal
  • 1 tbsp sliced dried coconut
  • some curry leaves
  • 1/8 tsp hing
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder( more or less )
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp salt or salt to taste
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar(optional)
  • Oil to fry

Method:

  1. Heat the oil on medium low heat, once hot (check by adding little avalakki it has to come up immediately) reduce the heat to low and fry each ingredient separately, first fry peanuts
  2. next fry cashews until it turns golden brown, transfer it to a colander
  3. Fry raisins until it puffs up, transfer it to a colander
  4. Then fry dry coconut slices until it turns golden brown, curry leaves until it becomes crisp
  5. Now increase the heat to medium / medium high, fry the avalakki little by little and transfer it to a colander
  6. leave a little oil in the pan, add hing and fry it. then add it to the other fried ingredients
  7. To the fried ingredients( when it is still warm) add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt, and sugar, mix it really well. Now this fried avalakki snack is ready !
