Ganesha Festival is celebrated during the August/September time of the year. It is believed that if you see moon on the festival day you have to chant one shloka which is given below.
Usually, we perform a vrata and prepare some traditional Ganesha festival recipes such as payasam, saaru, and kadubu and other snacks like unde or laddus, chakli, kodbale are also prepared on this day to offer to God Vinayaka. But Modaka is very important naivedya item for ganesha. If you are not able to to do any of the snack items soak brown chana/ kadale kaaLu and offer to God.

The menu of items that are traditionally prepared is the following:
- Idli
- Coconut chutney
- Payasam
- Two palyas (curries). EX: Carrot palya, Badanekaayi palya (Eggplant curry), potato, etc.
- Gojju
- 2 kosambari’s: Hesaru bele (moong dal) and kadale bele (channa dal) kosambari
- Saaru (rasam)
- Kalasida anna like
- Dodda menasina kayi anna, or thuppanna or Lemon rice or vangi bath or any other simple kalasida anna
- ambode
- Gojju
- Kadubu

For naivedyam for Ganesha, the following items are needed:
- Soaked whole channa
- pancha kajjaya
- Karagadabu or kolukattai or Avi Kadabu
- Chakli (murukku)
- Modaka
- ellunde
- kadle unde
- kodbale
For evening arati you can make Kadale kaalu or hesaru kaalu usli or hurigadale unde or pudi for prasada.
