Heerekai or ridge gourd is low calorie vegetable. Here is the simple yet delicious side dish Heerekai Mosaru Gojju using this ridge gourd and this is yogurt based dish can be used as raytha as well.
Try this heerekai Chutney, heerekai Podi / Dosa .
Ingredients for making heerekai mosaru gojju:
- 1 ridge gourd/heerekayi
- wash and peel the skin. Cut into small pieces
- 2 tsp oil
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- few curry leaves
- 2 to 3 green chillies (cut into 2 pieces)
For masala :
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- little coriander leaves
- around 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup yogurt/curd ( add little water and whisk it and keep it ready)
Method:
- Heat the oil on medium heat and once hot add mustard seeds, after it pops add green chillies , once chillies turns white take the chillies out and then add few curry leaves,
- And cut heerekayi along with salt, mix it well, cover it and cook it for 3 to 5 minutes or until it is done. STir in between.
- Once the ridge gourd is cooked well. Turn of the heat and allow it to cool completely
- In this recipe we are adding raw masala to the curd/yogurt along with this cooked heerekayi . if you are planning to keep this for a day then add the masala and boil it , allow it to cool before you add curd.
- Grind coconut, coriander leaves, fried green chilli along with water to a fine paste.
- Add this to the yogurt, mix it well.
- Add cooked and cooled heerekayi, mix it,
- Now heerekai mosaru gojju is ready to serve. Eat with rice, or use it like raytha .
