We already have the recipe for menthya tambuli using roasted methi seeds, here is another variety of menthe tambuli where we soaking the methi seeds. The benefits of methi seeds or benefits of fenugreek seeds are enormous. To name a few – Methi seeds / menthya / fenugreek seeds have lots of medicinal value. They are loaded with antioxidants. These seeds promote healthy hair, and help to relieve discomfort due to arthritis. They also help to avoid constipation and aids in liver function and digestion. It helps in reduction of cholesterol and removal of toxins from the body. Methi seeds helps to control the blood sugar level , relieve the symptoms during menopause, arthritis and weight loss.. Also Menthya keeps the body cool, so it is very beneficial during hot summer days.

Ingredients for making menthya tambuli:

  • 1/2 tbsp menthya /methi seeds/fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 tsp jeera / cumin seeds
  • 1 green chilli
  • around 10 curry leaves
  • 10 to 12 black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated fresh coconut
  • 3/4 tsp ghee(¼ tsp for frying the masala and ½ tsp for seasoning)
  • salt to taste or around 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup yogurt /curd
  • 3/4 cup water ( to soak the seeds and enough to get the right consistency of the tambli)
  • small piece of jaggery ( since menthya is bitter it is good to add some sweet to this recipe)

for seasoning:

  • ½ tsp ghee
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp jeera / cumin seeds
  • 2 to 3 broken red chilli pieces

Method:

  1. Wash and soak the methi seeds for minimum 2 hours
  2. Heat 1/4 tsp of ghee in a small pan, once the ghee is hot add pepper, jeera, fry it for few seconds then add green chilli, and curry leaves and fry it until the curry leaves becomes crisp. Then turn off the heat
  3. Grind the soaked menthya along with fried masala, jaggery, coconut, salt without adding water first.
  4. Add water and then grind it to afine paste. To this fine paste add curd/yogurt and pulse it 1 to 2 times. transfer this tamuli to a bowl. add some water to the mixer jar, add that as well.

For seasoning:

  1. Heat 1/2 tsp ghee in a ladle, once hot add mustard seeds, after it pops add jeera, fry it for few seconds, then add red chilli pieces and turn off the heat
  2. Add the seasoning to the tambuli, mix it well and serve with rice.
  3. Menthya keeps the body cool, so it is very beneficial during hot summer days
